Barb Wixom, Ph.D., is a Principal Research Scientist at the Center for IS Research at the MIT Sloan School of Management. For over 30 years, she has explored how organizations create value from data and AI, working as a researcher, educator, author, and speaker to advance both academic understanding and practical application. In 2023, Barb released her book “Data is Everybody’s Business” (MIT Press) to inspire workers across all levels of an organization to participate in data monetization. Barb has authored hundreds of academic and practice cases and articles, including in such journals as Information Systems Research; MIT Sloan Management Review; MIS Quarterly; and MIS Quarterly Executive. She frequently teaches her content in executive education and regularly presents her work to academic and business audiences around the world. She actively works to encourage women, young people, and underrepresented populations to learn about data and AI and pursue data and AI-related careers.
